Overcoming Self-Doubt

Wrong Image, wrong result
Wrong Image, wrong result

When it comes to self-doubt, whether you’ve been Saved for years or you’re a new Christian, you’re going to have to learn to deal with and eliminate self-doubt.

Simply stated: self-doubt is an attack from the enemy.

Let’s look at Genesis 3:1…this is where deception and doubt began.

As the Redeemed of the Lord, as a New Creation in Christ, you have an enemy,

and he traffics at the level of thought.

Now he’s defeated, and you are way more powerful than him, but those negative thoughts of doubting God will show up regularly - so you have to learn how to fight.

This is especially true as you begin to honor that feeling in your gut that you want to start a business of some sort...the enemy is going to step up the attacks because the last thing he wants is for you to fulfill your Purpose from God. So don't be surprised.

Studying out what you now have a Child of God is critical to know how to stand when those mental attacks flare up.

Journaling is great to examine your thoughts
Journaling is great to examine your thoughts

Holy Spirit had me open a mental file of expectations for what God has in store for me, for what I needed to begin to expect:

signs, wonders, miracles, Purpose, healing, love, wealth, renewed youth, great relationships, exceedingly, abundantly above anything you can ask, imagine or think.

And to that end- it’s seems unreal, unbelievable that you are now a person who can flow with all of these Heavenly Supernatural benefits - but you are.

So a big part of overcoming your self-doubt is understanding who you now are as Child of God.

God says you are: Made in the His image and likeness, you are the apple

of His eye, You are loved, Adopted, with Power, and self-discipline,

you are precious with talents, gifts and abilities. The list goes on and on…

When you know who you are and Whose you are in Christ, the enemy has no power to deceive you and keep you stuck.

See, when Adam ate from the Tree- we as a humans lost our connection to God, which included our Divine Self-Image.

Gen. 1:26-27 tells us how God created mankind kind in His Image and Likeness - and God is Spirit. That means we as humans are also Spirit.

God is triune: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And we are living souls: Spirit, Soul and Body.

That means that we as The Redeemed of the Lord, as New Creations in Christ, are now reconciled, reconnected to our Divine Nature;

The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you!

So what does all of that have to do with self-doubt?

Well think about it. When you’re having thoughts that make you doubt yourself, what do those thoughts sound like?

Are they telling you that  you’re amazing, supernatural, talented, beautiful, capable? No they’re not.

They are thoughts that play on fear, on memories of past hurts and failures, blowing them up and casting negativity on any step to move forward.

They are cruel lies, attempting to keep you stuck and struggling.

Those thoughts are a form of attack from the enemy.

Remember, he’s defeated -but he still has the power to deceive. It’s that same old trick - using our power against us…

But there is another side to self-doubt-

It has to do with growth and preparation… Let’s say you have your idea for a business, you have your mission statement, your ways of making money…but you feel hesitation.

That could be Holy Spirit, or just wisdom trying to slow you down so that you’re 100% ready for the move you want to make.

So in those moments go to God, ask Him and ask yourself why you feel the hesitation.

Training yourself to go to God when you feel unsure is absolutely crucial as you begin the journey of going into business for yourself.

You won’t have a manager or co-workers (at least not at the beginning) so it’s essential to pay attention to how you’re feeling and what’s going on in your thought life.

I wasted so many years trying to change my behavior, when what I really needed to be working on was learning how to change my priorities and my thoughts-

Taking Thoughts Captive

So let’s talk a little about how to take thoughts captive. 2 Corinthians 10:5

Growing up, I wasn’t taught how to take thoughts captive,

how challenge negative thoughts, so they just steam rolled right over me.

I mean, was anyone taught how to take thoughts captive? Let me know in the comments!!

My thought life was like an open field with all kinds of thoughts just running wild.

I was taught how to look - “put a smile on your face” - but I wasn’t taught how to fight back or challenge negative thoughts.

I didn’t now how to control it.

So the anxiety, the depression, the not feeling good enough…they just took over…

Let me know if you can relate…

**************

So what do you do?

First - you need to be compassionate with yourself.

This is probably all new to you. So give yourself a break.

The next thing I recommend is to study up on what you have as far as your Jesus-won Divine benefits. Check out Psalm 103:1-5…

I recommend picking up a copy of my book "The Soul Factor" https://a.co/d/6emWwqZ

It's an awesome handbook whether you’ve been Saved for years or just recently Saved, and it gives you a really good overview of what you have now that you’re Saved.

It’s so important that you get a strong idea of how your Image has been restored, the power you have, and how to fight. Remember, wrong image, wrong result.

The next thing is to start to be aware of what’s going on in your thought life.

It can feel impossible to get a grip on your thought life at the beginning, but this is where the power to change is; and Holy Spirit is always ready to help.

Let me pray for you-

“Heavenly Father-

I thank you and I praise you that I and all those under the sound of my voice are fearfully and wonderfully made!

I thank you for your love and compassion, for guarding and protecting us and never leaving or forsaking us.

Father In the name of Jesus I bind and cast out of every listeners heart and mind any thoughts or feelings that are not from you!

I seal their hearts and minds with the Blood of Jesus and I declare His peace in their thoughts right now. I thank you Lord for victory - in the name of Jesus!”

Now take a deep breath in and out, and expect to experience peace!

Here are a few scriptures to read and study out…

Psalm 119:13-14

Genesis 1:27

Jeremiah 29:11

Luke 12:6-7

Psalm 17:8

So to recap:

Study out what God says about you, bind and cast the enemy out of your thought life and pray protection as you begin to plant seeds of your Divine Self-Image.

Stay blessed!
