Divine Mind: embracing the Mind of Christ

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. -Phil. 4:8

Setting your Mind. 


Mindset…actually setting parameters around what you allow yourself to ponder, consider, focus on…think about.


And why is that so important? Because you are that powerful.


Mindset comes up a lot when it comes to athletes or entrepreneurs, but it’s important for all of us as New Creations in Christ. What we haven’t been taught in church is how amazingly powerful we all are - simply because God made us that way. And it starts at the level of the Mind.


He didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of Power, Love and a Sound Mind. (2 Tim. 1:7)


What is that Power? What exactly is that Power that God gave us?



Jesus said He gave us Power to tread on Unseen forces and over the enemy- so that nothing can hurt us. (Luke 10:19)


But again, my question is - what is that Power?


As I’ve come to understand it, that power is Mind Power. A combination of Identity and Mindset. The Power that God gave us is the Power to access the Victory Jesus won for us based on what we choose to focus on, and who we think we are.


This is the beginning of living in the Mind of Christ. It's why the Bible tells us in Romans 12:2 that we have to be transformed by the renewing of the Mind…so the life of Christ doesn’t start with behavior, it’s starts with Identity and Mindset.


The challenge:

  • to stay focused on who God is and who you are in Christ,

  • to maintain a grateful heart for everything you already have;

  • to remain in grateful anticipation of the specific Promise of God that’s on the way

  • to do things every day under divine inspiration.


And that is completely opposite to the system of the world.


Being, Doing, Having


The world teaches us to stay focused on the goal: how much weight you want to lose, how much money you want your business to make in the next quarter, getting married this year… 



It teaches us to focus on what we don’t have which is using our Divine mind, our Divine magnetism, our Power, against us. Because  as you continue to focus on what you don’t have -  that lack will remain in your life experiences... 


Because what you focus on expands.



That was the fatal flaw of Eve in the garden. She focused on the one thing that was restricted to her, which led to the Fall. Which was not just out of the Garden, but out of Divine Alignment: Divine Identity and  Divine Mind - her God-given Power.


So this is where Inner Game comes in. As New Creations in Christ, we have to understand that we need to flip the flow.


Our role is not to make things happen. Our role, our position, is to stay in Grateful Expectation, Faith, Trust and Obedience as Holy Spirit inspires us and leads us into the manifestation. That for me is Inner Game in a nutshell.



Again, we’re taught to focus on doing: learning new skills, networking, a new food program, a dating app -to get what we want. The problem of course is that what’s powering all of those activities is this thought of lack; that you’re pursuing something that you don’t have. 


Now I’m not saying that we don’t do things. As the Bible tells us, Faith without deeds is dead (James 2:17). But as we begin this life as a New Creation, it’s absolutely crucial that your doing is based on the instruction of Holy Spirit.


When your doing is inspired by Holy Spirit, it has the right Power flowing through it: The Divine Power of Faith that connects you with what God has already provided.(2 Peter 1:3-5) 


But when your doing is based on sight -which is powered by a belief that you lack something -it only creates more lack, or a temporary win at best.


God alone is responsible for the “when” and the “how” of Having. So our focus is about Being and Doing. God’s brings The Having.


And the ego hates that.


The Struggle


Our childishness hates that. The tendency we all have for immediate gratification hates that. 


And so we get impatient. We sell out. We don’t wait on God. We want what we want and we want it now; not understanding that it’s a trap. A trap that keeps us caged on the hamster wheel of the system of the world; striving, scrambling, chasing, hustling…


Looking at my own life, I can see how many times I fell for it. I would come up with some idea, not consult with Holy Spirit and start chasing. Only to find myself weeks, or even months later, in a place of discouragement and disappointment because I’d been chasing an idea that God never gave me. 


So setting our minds, starts with gratitude, which leads us to greater understanding, love, trust and obedience; in consistent, daily, calm, creativity. And from that Mindset, our Inner Ear sharpens and we can hear and flow Holy Spirit - our Divine Power Source -consistently and accurately.


Getting Grateful


We have to get hyper-intentional about staying grateful. Pay attention to your thoughts. Notice when you’re getting overly focused on what has not yet manifested, and stay focused on God’s character. He is faithful and he cannot fail. 


The delay between decreeing the promise and seeing it in your life has everything to do with you being prepared for what you’re asking for. God has plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you hope and your expected end (Jer. 29:11) But  He has to restore your soul, renew your mind and strengthen you in your inner being, so that you can maintain and sustain the weight of the Blessing you’re believing for. God is not going to give you something you really can't handle.


Where to Start


So as opposed to working by the sweat of your brow under the curse, chasing what you desire, you can now live in the Mind of Christ and the Faith of God, as The Redeemed of the Lord. Creating life like God and with God. But you have to learn how to use your Mind differently.



The great part is that getting tuned into Holy Spirit makes life so much easier. It’s like using Google maps when you set out for a new destination. 


You know the destination exists, and even though you don’t know how to get there specifically - you have a digital guide that does. So all you have to do is plug in the address, focus on driving safely, follow the prompts, and you’ll reach your destination.


This is what the Bible means when it tells us to work out our Salvation. The Kingdom of God is within us, but it needs to be intentionally released in the process of doing the work of the transformation of our Minds.


Simple, not easy; but oh so very worth it.
